Personal Statements
1) Describe the world you come from — for example, your family, community or school — and tell us how your world has shaped your dreams and
aspirations.
The world I come from is a place that has all around inspired me. I think the physical place I live in is beautiful and inspires me everyday to look a little deeper past the mundane average things that everyone sees and make art out of it. I've been taught by many people to love life and that the world around me is beautiful. Personal experience has showed me that a ten good things outweigh one, or even a hundred, bad things. I've learned to look at life a little bit differently, and keep up a positive attitude.
My family is a catalyst for my growth. They've encouraged me to do my best and don't accept anything less than so, because they know I can do it. They push me to go to my academics limits and a bit further. My brothers are often the ones I go to for help on my homework, and they stop what they are doing to help me out. I'm taught how to manage my time well enough to get my homework done without stress. They encourage me to go into a field which my intellect could be put to use, but I prefer to enter a field of art and they support me nonetheless. In fact, since I was little, I was into drawing, and my siblings always critiqued, complimented, or even insulted me, which caused me to work harder and exceed them in art skills. My family has supported me in whatever I choose to do, and I really appreciate that from them.
School is a safe place for me in which it's okay to learn and make mistakes. The community of HTHI is very welcoming to me and I love it here. Even when I think I will be criticized for something I do, they accept my creative ideas and the like, and nobody really judges another person here. This in itself allows me to grow, and try my best in order to help my classmates with their own work. I've aspire to be a teacher or to be someone inspirational, so I think it's splendid that some people in school look up to me as an upperclassman or a tutor.
All around, the people I'm around support me in whatever I choose to do and help better me. This is how my world shapes my aspirations.
2) Tell us about a personal quality, talent, accomplishment, contribution or experience that is important to you. What about this quality or accomplishment
makes you proud and how does it relate to the person you are?
One of the talents that everyone knows I have is my knack for art. I like to draw and to make pictures whenever I'm given a chance, or just a surface to draw on and a pencil. Art is important to me because I think it makes the world beautiful, and it just shows the hidden talent within many people. I am proud of my ability, and I'm flattered often by many of my friends and peers who praise me for my skill. I think art shows who I am because it exemplifies my creativity and dedication, for it takes years and years to develop the skill I have. I take pride in what I do, even if nobody sees it, and I will keep trying my best to improve upon my talent and myself as the time goes by.
